Karen (Kate) Healey

Karen Healey lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she jars stubborn scenes loose by wandering along the river. An incorrigible genre-hopper, she has written science fiction, urban fantasy, dystopia and contemporary romance under the names Karen and Kate.

Healey delights in wit, magic and banter, with clever, practical heroines, strong, soft heroes, and plenty of heart. She loves bringing imaginary communities to life with characters that step off the page and into your heart.

Why does she have two names? Well, the adult work gets spicy sometimes!

Karen Healey is an Aurealis and Sir Julius Vogel award winner, and has been a finalist for the ALA Morris Award, the NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults, and the Andre Norton Award, among others. In 2017 she was an Ursula Bethell Writer-In-Residence at the University of Canterbury.

Kate Healey hasn’t won anything yet, but give her time.
